## How a payment moves (7 steps)

1. Requested: from the dashboard, the AI Assistant, Slack or the API; every channel goes through the same checks.
2. Rules checked: people, AI agents and integrations pass one rule check (limits, payee, compliance rules).
3. Approved: the approvals the institution's rules require, usually a second person, or a pre-authorised limit with after-the-fact review. The requester can never approve their own payment.
4. Permit issued: the payment engine (own credentials, cannot use any AI) receives a one-time permit for this exact payment, expiring within 60 seconds.
5. Sent: through the connected provider (bank transfer, tokenized deposit, USDC; planned CoinPayments and DepiPay).
6. Reconciled: an AI agent matches it to the statement and explains any difference; a person accepts or rejects the fix.
7. Locked: a balanced ledger entry carrying a fingerprint of the previous entry, so later changes are detectable.

## Industries

- **Banks and financial institutions**: Run payment operations across bank rails, tokenized deposits and stablecoins from one control plane, and let AI agents do the investigation work without giving them access to funds.
- **Fintech and payment companies**: Embed approvals, spending limits, a tamper-evident ledger and reconciliation behind your own product through the API and SDK, and connect custodial or non-custodial crypto providers behind the same rules.
- **Corporate treasury**: Pay suppliers and contractors, run recurring payments and keep balances above your minimums, with approvals and a full audit trail, from the chat or the dashboard.
- **Private equity, asset and venture managers**: Large, infrequent wires to known parties are where IXFXN fits best: one person initiates, a partner or compliance officer approves, and the history is provable to LPs and auditors.
- **Family offices**: Family offices pay across trusts, companies and family members' accounts, usually with more than one person signing off. IXFXN gives that a single set of rules and one record.
- **Law firms: client trust accounts**: Client money needs careful records, approvals and regular reconciliation. IXFXN keeps every client-fund payment approved, recorded and matched to the bank statement. Solo practitioners can pre-authorise limits instead of needing a second person, with an after-the-fact review.
- **Real estate escrow and title**: Large one-off closing payments with strict trust-accounting rules: IXFXN puts approvals, payee checks and reconciliation around each disbursement.
- **Property managers**: Tenant deposits and owner funds are other people's money. IXFXN keeps those payments approved, recorded and reconciled.
- **Non-profits and foundations**: Grants often need board sign-off before they go out, and donors and regulators expect a clear record. IXFXN gives you both, including recurring grant payments.

## Regulation

IXFXN provides the software. Regulated activity is carried out by IXFXN's customers and integrated providers under their own licences.

## FAQ

### What is IXFXN?

IXFXN (pronounced I-X Function) is a control plane for institutional money. It handles payment requests, rule checks, approvals, sending through connected payment providers, reconciliation and a tamper-evident ledger, with an AI Assistant that drafts the work for authorised people to confirm.

### Can the IXFXN AI Assistant move money on its own?

No. The Assistant can draft, explain and investigate, but a person confirms every draft it prepares, and the payment then needs the approvals your rules require: usually a second person, or a limit that a named person pre-authorised in advance, with an after-the-fact review. The part of IXFXN that sends money, the payment engine, cannot use any AI component; that separation is checked automatically on every code change. It only acts on a permit for one exact payment, which works once and expires within 60 seconds.

### Is IXFXN a regulated financial institution?

No. IXFXN builds the software. Regulated activity is carried out by IXFXN's customers and the payment providers integrated with IXFXN, under their own licences.

### Which payment providers does IXFXN connect to?

Today IXFXN runs against simulated bank transfers, tokenized deposits and USDC. Planned: CoinPayments as the default custodial crypto provider and DepiPay for non-custodial crypto. Each provider plugs in behind the same limits, approvals and ledger.

### Do I have to use the chat?

No. You can switch between the Desktop view and the Assistant at any step. Both show the same live payment, so nothing is copied and nothing goes stale.

### How does IXFXN stop anyone changing past records?

Every ledger entry is balanced and carries a fingerprint of the entry before it. Changing any past entry breaks every fingerprint after it, which the audit check on the dashboard detects.

### Can outside AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude use IXFXN?

Yes, through the IXFXN MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. Today it is read-only: outside AI tools can look up payment status and audit trails and run IXFXN's reporting agents. They cannot draft, confirm or send payments.

### Which industries is IXFXN built for?

Organisations that move larger payments to known recipients under a duty of care someone can audit: banks and financial institutions, fintech and payment companies, corporate treasury, private equity and asset managers, family offices, law firm client trust accounts, real estate escrow and title, property managers, and non-profits and foundations.
